Style Icon: Marianne Faithful

Singer/songwriter, actress and muse. Marianne Faithful was the original wild girl of rock. She has been a style icon and respected musican for decades (her fashion sense most famously mimiced by the likes of Kate Moss). Today you would probably class Faithful’s style as ‘rock chic’, I adore it for her originality and effortlessness.

The young star was Mick Jagger’s girlfriend for five years in the late sixties, and according to rock legend inspired some classic Stones songs (‘you can’t always get what you want’ and ‘lets spend the night together’ to name a few).

Faithful was always a legendary party animal, she was once found wearing nothing but a rug during a famous police search of Keith Richard’s house in 1967. But sadly, the singer fell victim to an increasing dependency on herione. By the early seventies Faithful was homeless. She spent two years living on the streets of London. It’s the sort of tragic story that often comes with fame and rock n’ roll.

Luckily for us, Marianne was able to recover, few stars from the sixties have reinvented themselves as successfully as her.

Designer Spotlight: Mulberry & The Del Rey

I had intended on writing something about Mulberry naming their newest bag after American ‘starlet’ Lana Del Rey, then I came across this aritcle on Holy Moly!  And I couldn’t agree with Becca more.

Mulberry described the new ‘it bag’ as:

a considered, understated and perfectly proportioned bag, the Del Rey has a silhouette that implies structure yet it is soft and tactile in the best Mulberry tradition

None of this makes me think of the american singer. To me, Lana’s style seems a bit fake, and rather put together. I’m so utterly confused as to why Mulberry chose to name their new bag after her…

Style Crush: Miss Alexa Chung

No matter how you feel about Alexa Chung the person, she is undoubtedly a modern fashion icon. The epitome of London style, champion of the city’s most up and coming designers, and twice awarded Bristish style icon at the British fashion awards. And, her influencential pressence in the fashion world is about to get a lot bigger as on friday the British Fashion Council annouced Alex Chung their BFC young style ambassador. I think they’ve made a pretty good choice with old Alexa. I like the image of London fashion she promotes, and her style mantra, ‘women should always dress for themselves’ Amen!

Love Magazine: Lindsay Lohan & Terry Richardson

I’m getting a bit tired of this duo’s artistic love affair. Lindsay, in yet another Marylin inpired shoot, is obviously trying to play the seductive heroine. But to me, the pictures come off forced, and somewhat desperate.

It’s a shame because in the past I have loved the way Terry Richardson has captured the actress. I’m also unimpressed by Lohan’s glaring double standards, she’s not willing to pose nude for playboy, but she’s more than willing to hitch up her skirt for Love.

I’d like to see Lindsay spend less time in front of the camera, and more time sorting herself out.  Lets hope that happens in 2012.
